When cruising the net, you should try to pay attention to the address bar. By noticing what it says you can stay better informed of where you are surfing.
One thing to notice is the top level domain. For example the top level domain for www.findthebestlocal.com is COM. This zone is intended for US commercial sites. Meanwhile www.findthebestlocal.biz is a BIZ zone which is intended for business related web sites. Below is a brief listing.
com for us commercial edu for us educational institution org for non profit organizations gov for us government mil for military biz for business firms net for internet related companies info for informational sites tv for television and media companies etc, etc, etc
us US ca Canada uk Great Britain fr France mx Mexico etc, etc, etc
This is just a partial list from the top of my head. While only certain types of businesses are supposed to apply for certain zones, this is not always enforced. Nonetheless, if you are looking for informative non commercial information, then sites with a .gov or .org might be the most useful. If the site is .com then one way or the other they are trying to sell you something.
